This opinion paper is written in the backdrop of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has severely affected the world (World Health Organization 2020b).

While the pandemic has heavily affected people’s health and impacted their ability to earn a living, the question arises whether this impact has amplified existing gender inequalities . COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by SARS Cov-2 that primarily spreads through saliva or discharge from the nose when a person coughs or sneezes.
