The Annual Meeting of African Science Academies (AMASA) 2023

Integrating Gender Equality in STEM Education in Africa

AMASA 2023 was organized in partnership with the Academy of Science of South Africa, GenderInSITE and the InterAcademy Partnership on the theme “Integrating Gender Equality in STEM Education in Africa: The Role of Science Academies”. The event deliberated on the findings of the report on Gender Equality at African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) institutions. The meeting also focused on the implications for the findings to NASAC member academies and on the lessons learned for the benefit in the work of mainstreaming gender in science academies.

The event was open to all relevant stakeholders and partners, including NASAC Member Academies, early career researchers and senior academics, potential member academies, gender specialists from various African university faculties and leadership, as well as decision-makers in the private and public sectors. The event welcomed upwards of 50 participants from all the African regions and abroad. The AMASA 2023 report is currently under review and will be circulated here in the short term.

We take this opportunity to thank the speakers and panelists for their invaluable contributions that made the meeting an engaging success. We also thank our Members and Partners for their continued support and all participants for attending and participating in this important annual meeting.

AMASA 2024 will be held in November 2024 as a physical meeting hosted by the Algerian Academy of Science and Technology (AAST).
